Benefits of Salt Water Hot Tubs

One of the most exciting advances in hot tub maintenance in recent years has been the introduction of reliable, saltwater sanitizing systems for hot tubs.  They have been available for inground pools for years but had never been a viable option for hot tubs.  This has changed in the last few years.  A saltwater sanitizing system works by converting salt into a very natural form of chlorine which then sanitizes the water in the spa.  This type of system has many different advantages compared to older ways of keeping your spa clear, clean, and ready to use

For many people the most important benefit of a saltwater hot tub is how the water feels on and affects the skin.  The water in a saltwater hot tub feels very soft and silky on your skin.  The water feels very soothing on your skin, and this contributes to the overall relaxation provided by the hot tub.

The salt in the water also protects your skin from being dried out by the heat of the water.  This leaves your skin feeling very soft and clean when you get out of the hot tub.

Another major advantage to a saltwater sanitizing system is that it greatly simplifies ownership of a hot tub.  Since the hot tub is continuously generating chlorine, your water will stay cleaner while you add fewer chemicals.  Gone are the days of adding powered chlorine to your hot tub several times a week and having to add shock to your spa after every use.

Because you are adding so many fewer chemicals to the water, instead of having to drain your spa every 2-3 months, it is done on average just once a year. This means more time that your spa is up and ready to be used to make your life better.

Some saltwater hot tubs even monitor the water chemistry for you and tell you if what, if anything, needs to be done to keep the spa crystal clear and clean.  This reduces the amount of testing needed and simplifies ownership even more.
